Pro Skate Sharpening: When and How Often?
Pro skate sharpening is one of our most popular services, but a lot of skaters aren't sure when it's actually time for a tune-up. Here are a few signs to watch for.
You're Losing Your Edge
If you notice yourself slipping on turns or struggling to stop cleanly, that's usually the first sign your edges have dulled.
Visible Nicks or Flat Spots
Run a fingernail lightly along the blade. Nicks, burrs, or flat spots mean it's time for a sharpen, not just for performance but to avoid uneven wear.
How Often Is "Often Enough"?
For recreational skaters, every 15-20 hours of ice time is a reasonable rule of thumb. Competitive players, especially goalies with different hollow preferences, often sharpen more frequently. When in doubt, bring your skates in and we'll take a look.
We Handle New and Used Skates
Whether you picked up a pair of consignment skates from us or brought in your own, our pro sharpening service keeps you moving with confidence on the ice.
Stop by during business hours or give us a call to ask about current turnaround times.
